The 2014 Friends of 4-H recipients were awarded on April 20 during the awards portion of the Member, Officer & Advisor Conference held at Hillsboro High School.
Among this year's honorees as a Friend of 4-H is Tractor Supply Company.
They are a company that truly support the efforts of 4-H. They ask for clubs to assist in activities they are holding locally.
The Clover campaign is a national campaign that our local store participates in, which brings money back to the community to support 4-H programming. Those who participate in the clove campaign are also eligible for the paper clover sweepstakes. They have also donated to our OSU Extension Dinner Auction fundraiser, giving even more back to our 4-H members.

• Our third Friends of 4-H are Beth and Mike Allering.
They work tirelessly to provide us with exceptional food at the Highland County fair and other events they cater for 4-H and Extension. They have always put the youth of 4-H “first” since they have been overseeing the food booth during the fair. They put in countless hours preparing for the fair, even taking their vacation to be there to run the food booth. He does price comparisons to ensure a profit for the youth.
They purchase items locally to serve stock food for the week and oversee the 4-H clubs as they rotate in and out of their shifts. They are always willing to pitch in if a club does not have enough people working to make sure orders are being filled. She does extensive training on running the cash register to make sure of smooth transitions between shifts.
During the week of the fair, he arrives at the food booth around 3-4 a.m. to do set up and get things going – this is above and beyond to help the youth of our county benefit from the sales of the food booth. They both make sure the items going out the door are of high quality. He also makes sure the food booth is clean during the rest of the year for the multitude of events that take place there. These two are truly “Friends of 4-H.”
