On Monday morning, the Mid-American Conference office announced that both Brett Gabbert and Graham Nicholson of Miami University captured weekly awards. Gabbert was named MAC East Offensive Player of the Week, while Nicholson took home MAC East Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

Gabbert threw for 223 yards and two scores and added a career-best two rushing touchdowns as the RedHawks downed Western Michigan 34-21 last Saturday. The win moved Miami to 6-1 on the season, its best start since 2003.

Nicholson continued his perfect season, drilling a pair of field goals (39 and 40 yards) and made all four extra points in the win. The junior is 13-of-13 on field goal attempts this season and is one of 11 kickers in the nation to not miss a kick in 2023.

On Wednesday, Gabbert was also named the Mid-American Conference's male Scholar-Athlete of the Week.

The Scholar Athlete of the Week Award is presented to a MAC male and/or female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. An institution can nominate up to one male and one female student-athlete per week in any of that current season's sports. The winners are selected by a representative of the MAC's Faculty Athletics Representatives (FARs).

Gabbert is a redshirt junior from St. Louis, Mo. and is pursuing a Master's in Sport Leadership and Management in the College of Education, Health and Society.

Gabbert and the RedHawks are back in action Saturday at 4 p.m. when they host Toledo for homecoming at Yager Stadium.
