McClain Hi-Y spreading holiday cheer; elementary pupils in need to receive Secret Santa Bags, donation collection starts Dec. 1

McClain’s student organizations are community driven and one of those organizations this holiday season is embarking on a project to help provide care and support to the younger generation.
The project is McClain Hi-Y’s Secret Santa Bags that members are going to put together for elementary students within the district. These bags will be filled with items to provide comfort, care, and support to students who may be in need of one or more of those aspects in their lives.
Hi-Y vice-president, and student advisory council member, Savannah Collins spoke to school board members recently about the project at a school board meeting.
According to advisor Ethan Hurtt, this was something the students came up with a few weeks ago when they were exploring ways to serve the community.
So, beginning Dec. 1 and running through to Dec. 12, donations will be collected with the ultimate goal of putting those bags together and getting them into the hands of students before Christmas break.
On the district website, the McClain High School’s Facebook page and the Facebook page for the McClain Hi-Y, you can find more information — including a detailed list of acceptable items and how everything will be handled, as well as a link to an Amazon registry created for the project.
Suggested items to donate are new or gently used winter items, clothing, and toys. Packaged snacks and necessity items are also good things to donate. Monetary donations are also welcome and will be used to purchase any needed items to complete the bags.
