Man indicted in Hamilton County for alleged attack on Cincinnati police officer
Hamilton County Prosecutor Melissa Powers recently announced the indictment of Brandon Claiborne for an alleged attack on a Cincinnati Police officer July 23.
Claiborne, 34, was indicted for one count of attempted murder (F1), two counts of aggravated robbery (F1) and two counts of felonious assault (F1). If convicted, he faces a maximum possible sentence of 22-27.5 years in prison.
On July 23, Cincinnati Police received a report of a suspicious person at Sawyer Point. The police officer responded to the scene and located an individual, later identified as Brandon Claiborne, matching the suspect’s description.
The officer engaged in a brief conversation with Claiborne before Claiborne allegedly struck the officer in the face and wrestled him to the ground.
Claiborne allegedly gained control of the officer’s Taser and baton and used them to repeatedly strike the officer. Claiborne allegedly attempted to gouge the officer’s eyes with his thumbs.
Upon the arrival of another police officer, Claiborne was taken into custody without further incident.
The officer is alleged to have suffered serious physical harm at the hand of Brandon Claiborne. It is alleged Claiborne wanted to kill a white police officer.
Hamilton County Prosecutor Melissa Powers commented on the allegations, “This vicious attack was nothing short of attempted murder of a police officer. Situations like this are the direct result of a growing anti-police movement that is dehumanizing law enforcement.”
