The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs added to their championship pedigree for the 2023 season, as they won a Division III SE District Sectional Championship Thursday night.

The win at LCHS against the visiting Portsmouth West Senators saw the Mustangs win by a 6-0 score en route to winning the sectional.

The first LCHS goal was scored by Josiah Burns on a penalty kick, followed by a goal by Austin Bell for a 2-0 score, which was the score at halftime.

In the second half, JJ Massey added a goal for the Mustangs off a header, as LC took a three-goal lead.

From there, Massey added a second goal to his total, putting the Mustangs ahead 4-0.

A corner kick by Braedon West scored a goal for the host Mustangs, leaving the score 5-0, and Bell rang in one final goal for LCHS, giving them a six-goal lead.

LCHS now stands at 8-7-3 overall, and in SHAC play this season the Mustangs finished 6-1-0.

The Mustangs — who were SHAC tri-champions — are now on to the district semifinals on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at Zane Trace High School, as they are facing the McDermott Northwest Mohawks at 6 p.m.
