Lois Watson Whitley

Lois (Watson) Whitley, 97, of Greenfield, passed away peacefully at Traditions of Chillicothe on Friday, May 5, 2023. 

Lois was born Feb. 25, 1926 at home on Housemantown Road, Bainbridge, the first of five children born to Staton and Ollie (Shoemaker) Watson.

Lois attended Bainbridge Elementary School and McClain High School. In 1948, she married Berlin R. Whitley of Greenfield, who preceded her in death in 1993 after 45 years of marriage.  

Lois was employed by the American Pad and Textile Company and the U.S. Shoe Corporation until retiring in the late 1970s. She cared for her granddaughter; and in her spare time, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, soap operas ("Y&R") and computer solitaire.  She loved to read, having read hundreds of mystery novels.

Lois is survived by her son, Marion (Susie) Whitley of Greenfield; two daughters, Carole (Rue) Lambert and Allison (Jeff) White both of Bainbridge; five grandchildren, Chris (Tonia) Vorhies, Nicole (Chad) Richmond, Matt Lambert, Lucas White and Logan White; three great-grandchildren, Evan Vorhies, Noah Richmond and Morgan Richmond; one great-great-grandchild, Belle Richmond; one sister-in-law, Thelma Watson; and many special nieces and nephews.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Earl Watson, Gordon Watson and Wayne Watson; and one sister, Eleanor Smith Chroninger.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, May 11 at the Anderson-Ebright Funeral Home in Greenfield with the Rev. Mike Anderson officiating. Following the service, Lois will be laid to rest beside her husband, Berlin, in Greenfield Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m.  Wednesday, May 10 at the funeral home.
