Local Lady Mambas team wins 2023 AAU Basketball World Championship

The sixth grade Lady Mambas dominated the Knoxville, Tenn. AAU Basketball World Championship this past week, bringing home first place in Division III.
With seven local players, the girls battled hard to earn first place in the world championship AAU tourney and finished the year with a record of 23-10 and as National Champs.
The Lady Mambas went 6-0 at the Knoxville World Championship, including wins over Dayton Kroc Center (42-9), LA-Lady Shockaz (40-26), MD DPR/DMV Hoops Academy (41-33), MS Fly Girls Coach (44-20), Dayton Kroc Center (44-23) and the Maryland- DPR/DMV Hoops Academy (66-48)
Their record this season includes finishing first place three times, second place twice and third place twice in the season tournaments.
“What a wonderful season and experience for the Lady Mamba players and families throughout the season and championship tournament,” Head Coach Derrik Haithcock said.
Coaches Haithcock and Aleesha Shriver would like to thank the players and families for all their hard work and commitment as well as the local Highland, Brown, Adams, Fayette and Montgomery counties for all their support of the Lady Mambas.
“The young ladies represented themselves, their families, respective schools and communities very well,” Haithcock said. “We would like to give all the community members and sponsors a big thank-you for your support and sponsorships.”
