South Central Power Company appreciates support, patience
To the editor:
On June 29, a severe storm with damaging winds swept across 700 miles of the country.
While the wind and rain moved through Ohio quickly, it left a vast path of destruction that remains in evidence today.
From Indiana to the East Coast, millions had their electric service disrupted. More than 52,000 South Central Power consumers – nearly half of the cooperative’s membership – were among those affected.
Outage restoration efforts were hampered not only by downed trees and broken poles, but also by temperatures that hit 100 degrees. It was understandable that as time passed and temperatures rose, so did the frustration of our members.
Now that the electricity is restored, South Central Power wants to take a moment to say “thank you.”
First, thank you to our members for your patience and understanding of the severity of the situation. Your support of the hundreds of people involved in restoring the power is greatly appreciated.
Second, thank you to the men from outside of our service territory who helped to restore power.
They cleared debris, cut trees, set poles, strung wire and replaced equipment side-by-side with South Central Power crews. Without their help, the outages would have lasted far longer.
Third, thank you to the employees of South Central Power who faced blazing heat, rugged terrain and dangerous conditions to get power flowing again. They worked long hours, and we’re proud to say, did so without serious injury.
In the coming days, South Central Power will review its storm response and outage restoration systems and procedures.
Our focus: put the co-op in the best possible position to respond when the next storm hits because we know there will be another storm someday.
We take very seriously the trust you’ve placed in us to provide reliable electric service at an affordable price. That continues to be our commitment to you.
Sincerely,
The Board of Trustees
and Management
