City council needs to take control
To the editor:
The serious situation with the ongoing debate over local fire and EMS coverage dates back to past city of Hillsboro administrations.
There has been enough blame to go around.
It is time for city administrators, city council and township trustees to listen to the voters and taxpayers. There is no need to rush into contracts with other districts. You can work this out.
You are all voted in by the people. Listen to us!
The Hillsboro City Council needs to take control of this issue. Yes, trustees are mad at the city administration for not negotiating. But no one seems to care about the ones who pay the bills – the citizens.
By going into a contract with another fire district, Hillsboro residents will pay more for less, as will Liberty Township residents. This is not good government.
We do not need to do away with the Hillsboro Fire Department. We need to negotiate a better contract for the taxpayers – the very people who paid for the new fire station, equipment, etc.
It's time for council to represent the citizens and put this to rest.
Sincerely,
Charlie Walker
