LC Mustangs golf season ends at districts

The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs golf team saw their season come to an end Oct. 2 in the Division III Southeast District tournament, as they competed at the Elks Country Club in McDermott.

The Mustangs were eighth overall at districts, compiling a team score of 356.

Junior Saxen Wilkin led the Mustangs with an 83, including shooting a 40 on the front nine and a 43 on the back nine. He was 14th overall as an individual at districts.

Next, junior Braedon West shot an 89, as he was 28th overall as an individual. Junior Cody Bell’s score of 91 put him in 35th place overall.

Junior Austin Bell followed with a 93, good for 39th place. Rounding out the team scoring was junior Cole Wells, who shot a 104 for 53rd place.

The event was won by West Union with a team score of 339, as the team of Adam Cooper, Matthew Griffis, Tegan Knox, Landon McIntosh and Brandt Seaman advanced to state.

Also qualifying was Valley junior Cameron Phillips, who won a playoff on the first hole against South Webster junior Owen Mault to advance to the state tournament.
