Joseph Lee Wise

Joseph Lee Wise, 84, of Hillsboro, passed away Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023 at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born April 29, 1939 in Rainsboro, the son of the late Virgina Wise.

Joseph was a graduate of the Greenfield McClain High School, and he proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1962-1964. Joseph served his community by working in law enforcement for the Highland County Sheriff’s Office and as a Liberty Township Trustee for 14 years. He was a member and past commander of the Hillsboro AmVets Post 61, member of the American Legion, Hillsboro VFW Post 9094, Highland Masonic Lodge #38 F&AM, Hillsboro Eagles Aerie #1161 and a member of the Buckeye State Sheriffs Association.

Joseph enjoyed fishing, trail riding in his jeep and camping with his wife, Carolyn. He will be greatly missed.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Carolyn Wise, whom he married Aug. 21, 1965; two daughters, Laura Lee (Doug) Saylor of Greenfield and Lisa Jo (Jim) Leeth of Hillsboro; six grandchildren, Brittany Wise of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Brooke Alexander of Greenfield, Megan (Caleb) Cockerill of Groveport, Hallie (Zach Shepherd) Saylor of Cincinnati, Jess Leeth of Columbus and Derek (Elena) Leeth of Columbus; and seven great-grandchildren, Alexus Waddell, Kira Alexander, Miranda Alexander, Peyton Alexander, Ava Alexander, Kian Leeth and Emmy Leeth.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Howard Gray.

Gathering of family and friends will be held Friday, Sept. 15, 2023 from 10-11:45 a.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Masonic services will follow visitation at 11:45 a.m. at the funeral home, and a celebration of Joseph’s life will take place Friday, Sept. 15, 2023 at noon at the funeral home. Burial will follow services in the Prospect Cemetery.
