John D. Cook
John D. Cook, 87, of Hillsboro, passed away Sunday, Sept. 10, 2023.
He was born Jan. 31, 1936 in Samantha, the son of the late Walter Harrison and Mary C. (Holt) Cook.
John was a graduate of Leesburg High School. After graduating, he served his Country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He retired from the State of Ohio Natural Resources where he was the building supervisor for southern Ohio.
John was a member of the American Legion and the Highland County Coon Hunters. He had a love for the outdoors, especially traveling to Canada and Alaska. He was a big-game hunter who has several trophy mounts to his credit. John lived life well.
On Sept. 22, 1958, John was united in marriage to Lois E. (Wheelen) Cook. They were blessed with two loving children, a son, Jeffrey D. (Jennifer) Cook of Jackson and a daughter, Lisa E. (Robert) Warner of Hagerstown, Ind.; five grandcildren, Ben (Margaret) Warner, Neal (Kortnee) Warner, Paul (Audreyalice) Warner, John (Natasha) Cook and Christopher (Stephanie) Cook; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter (Diana) Cook of Washington state; a niece; and a host of friends.
Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by a sister, June Canter.
Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14 at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15 at the Hightop Cemetery in Samantha with Tom Stoops officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Highland County Honor Guard.
