Joan Marie Wright, 87, of Hillsboro, passed away Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023, at her home. 

Joan was born Nov. 24, 1935 in Sharonville, the daughter of the late Cornelius Veddern and Agnes (Cordy) Veddern. 

Joan was a devout Catholic. She graduated from Catholic School in Cincinnati, and she was a lifelong member of the St. Mary Catholic Church in Hillsboro. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1161, and she enjoyed crocheting, puzzles and going to the casino. She will be greatly missed. 

Joan is survived by her four children, Cynthia “Cindy” Baker of Longview, Texas, Joseph “Jody” (Susan) Wright of Acampo, Calif., Suzanne “Sue” (Dan) Hurley of Hillsboro and Randall “Randy” (Carolyn) Wright of Schererville, Ind.; 12 grandchildren, Timothy Baker, Benjamin Baker, Crystal Baker, Michael Wright, Andrea (Jessie) Viss, Erica (Julian) Wright, Jennifer Lynn Wright, Dave (Briana Hickey) Francis, Dustin Francis, Danielle York, Jennifer Wright and Tommy Wright; four great-grandchildren, Avacyn Francis, Alister York, Joseph York and Dyamond Baker; and a great-great grandchild, Jade Baker. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph G. Wright, on Jan. 30, 2011; a grandson, Johnathon Baker; a great-grandson, Lance Baker; and two siblings, Harold Veddern and Marian Isaacs. 

Visitation will be 9:30-11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Hillsboro. Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29 at the church. Fr. Michael Paraniuk will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions may be made in Joan’s name to the St. Mary Catholic School, 119 E. Walnut Street, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133. The Turner & Son Funeral Home is serving the family.
