Jade Massey nets 4 goals in Lynchburg-Clay season-opening win vs. GHS

The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs gained a season-opening win to start the 2023 season, continuing their dominance from last season and defeating the visiting Georgetown Lady G-Men 6-0 Friday at LCHS.
Last year the Lady Mustangs were regional champions in Division III, and though they lost talented players due to graduation, the roster still has many talented players back for this season, as that was evident in the season opener.
The shutout win saw keeper sophomore Caitlyn Collins record two saves, and the offense of LCHS collected six goals, two assists and 18 shots.
Goals for the Lady Mustangs included four from senior Jade Massey, as she gained the rare four-goal “haul” in the non-conference win as she took a total of seven shots on the night.
Also with goals were senior Brya McClain and junior Miranda Smith. Assists were credited to freshman Savannah Bell and senior Samantha Merry.
The win moves LCHS to 1-0 overall, and they are scheduled to next play on Tuesday, Aug. 15 against non-conference opponent, the Clinton-Massie Lady Falcons at 6:45 p.m. at LCHS.
In the boys season opener on Friday night, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs lost to the visiting Georgetown G-Men, 1-0. The boys are scheduled to play again on Thursday, Aug. 17 on the road at Western Brown with a 5 p.m. start, with the girls game following.
