Whiteoak's Jake Ward competes in Division II State Bowling Tournament

Whiteoak junior Jake Ward made his state bowling debut Saturday, March 4, earning a 74th-place finish on the highest stage of them all at the OHSAA Division II State Bowling Tournament.

Ward scored a 508 in the individual tournament.

In the state tournament at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl, Ward bowled in three games. He earned his highest score in his first game with 196 pins, including three straight strikes to close the game.

The second game saw Ward finish with a score of 147, while he improved in the third game with a score of 155 for an overall total of 508.

The individual winner at state was Spencer Hannahs, a senior from St. Paris Graham Local, who scored a 729. DeGraff Riverside won the team championship.

As previously reported, Ward punched his ticket to state with a second-place finish of 634 pins as the only individual qualifier from the Southeast District tournament. He bowled a 228 in his first game, followed by a 194 in game two and 212 in game three.

Also this year, Ward was an All-Southern Hills Athletic Conference bowler, finishing with a score of 1,123 in the SHAC tournament.
