Whiteoak Lady ’Cats fall in SHAC game to Fayetteville

MOWRYSTOWN — The first half of the Southern Hills Athletic Conference game between the host Whiteoak Lady Wildcats and visiting Fayetteville Rockets was a closely played game, as there was a two-point differential on the scoreboard at halftime.
Even after three quarters, the Lady ’Cats were still within striking distance, but the fourth frame was a different story was Fayetteville outscored WHS, 16-8 to eventually defeat the Lady ’Cats, 50-36 at WHS.
In the first frame, it was Whiteoak trailing by just one point at 11-10, where eight of the 10 points scored by WHS were off baskets by Darby Yeager, while the other two points came from Jaylie Parr.
As for Fayetteville, in that same first frame it was Anne Murphy scoring seven of her game-high 34 points, as she made a 3-pointer and two two-point baskets. The rest of Fayetteville’s scoring in the opening quarter came from three points by Ryley Kleemeyer and one point by Cassidy Feldhaus.
Fayetteville outscored the Lady ’Cats, 14-13 in the second quarter as FHS led Whiteoak, 25-23 at halftime.
For WHS in the second quarter, Addison Roberts scored five points (including a 3-pointer), while Yeager added four points and Kylie Hamm scored two points off free throws. For FHS, Murphy scored 12 of their 14 second-quarter points, with three two-point baskets, a 3-pointer and three free-throw conversions. Kleemeyer also scored two points in the same quarter for the Lady Rockets.
With Fayetteville leading 25-23 entering the third frame, the visitors outscored WHS, 9-5 in the third as Murphy added five points in the frame, while Fayetteville teammates Victoria Thompson and Kleemeyer each scored two points.
Whiteoak kept the score close in the third with four points by Roberts and one point from Brooke Campbell.
In the fourth, Fayetteville broke away from Whiteoak with Murphy scoring nine points (two 3-pointers), while Lilly Carlier, Kleemeyer and Ava Baker each scored two points.
Whiteoak had Kelsey Monteith score five points (one 3-pointer), and Yeager also knocked down a 3-pointer in the final frame.
For the game, WHS was led by Yeager with 15 points, followed by Roberts with nine, Monteith with five and Parr with four. Rounding out the WHS scoring were Hamm with two points and Campbell with one point.
WHS finished 9-of-15 from the free-throw line, while Fayetteville was 7-of-17.
Fayetteville was led by Murphy with a game-high 34 points, as she made seven two-point baskets, five 3-pointers and she was 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Also for the Lady Rockets in the scoring column, Carlier, Thompson and Baker each totaled two points, Kleemeyer finished with nine points and Feldhaus had one point.
WHS moves to 2-2 in the SHAC and 4-5 overall. Fayetteville is now 3-3 in the SHAC and 4-3 overall.
