Whiteoak falls to Valley at Chad Hodson Classic

LEESBURG — The Whiteoak Wildcats took part in the inaugural Chad Hodson Classic Saturday afternoon, falling to the Valley Indians 70-51 in their non-conference game.
WHS trailed 17-10 after the first quarter was completed, as WHS led by three points early on with a basket by Carson Emery and a made free throw by Luken Roades.
Valley took the lead with two consecutive baskets, but WHS answered with a basket by Landon Barnett for a 5-4 Wildcat lead.
That would be the final time Whiteoak held the lead in the game, with Valley scoring the next five points, with a two-point basket by Levi Stewart and a 3-pointer from George Arnett for a 9-5 score in favor of the Indians with 4:40 left in the opening frame.
From that point in the first quarter, WHS had baskets from Emery and a 3-pointer by Zander Roades, with Whiteoak trailing 17-10 at the end of the frame.
Valley built a 31-21 lead when halftime arrived with Whiteoak scoring 11 points in the second frame, while Valley totaled 14 points in the same quarter.
WHS in the second had points from Emery with six (4-of-4 from the free-throw line, one two-point basket), a 3-pointer by Barnett and two points from Weston Blair.
WHS was outscored 21-14 in the third, and in the fourth quarter Valley added 18 points to their total, while Whiteoak scored 16 points.
Zander Roades led Whiteoak with 18 points, with all his points coming via 3-pointers. Roades made three 3-pointers in the third quarter and two in the fourth quarter to go with his first-quarter 3-pointer.
Barnett followed with 17 points in the game, making four two-point baskets, two 3-pointers and 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. He was also named the team’s MVP for the Chad Hodson Classic.
Emery finished with 11 points, and the rest of Whiteoak’s scoring included three points by Luken Roades and two points from Blair.
As a team, WHS made eight 3-pointers, and they were 11-of-14 from the free-throw line.
Arnett led Valley with 21 points.
The loss moves WHS to an overall record of 9-10, as they have a 6-6 record in Division II of the SHAC.
Whiteoak has two regular-season games left this season, with them hosting SHAC counterpart Ripley on Friday, Feb. 10. From there, on Saturday, Feb. 11, they are scheduled to take on East Clinton at ECHS in non-conference play.
