Paint Valley wins on road at Whiteoak

MOWRYSTOWN — The Paint Valley Lady Bearcats took advantage of miscues by the host Whiteoak Lady Wildcats Monday to send WHS to a non-conference loss by a 40-31 score.
WHS had problems from the free-throw line, as they didn’t bring over the momentum gained last week in Monday’s physical contest been the two teams. WHS shot 9-of-21 from the free-throw line, while Paint Valley was 14-of-24 in their free throw attempts.
Averi McFadden led the Lady Bearcats with 16 points, with the senior totaling three two-point baskets, two 3-pointers and she was 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in the win.
Whiteoak was led by Kylee Hamm with 11 points, as she had two-point field goals, and she was the bright spot from the free-throw line for Whiteoak with a 7-of-8 performance.
WHS trailed 9-5 at the conclusion of the first frame with Paint Valley’s McFadden sinking the first points of the game with a 3-pointer. From there, WHS scored the next four points with baskets by Darby Yeager and Hamm for the 4-3 lead with 5:10 left in the first frame.
PVHS responded with six straight points off baskets — while forcing two turnovers — by McFadden with both steals and Karris Dye for a 9-4 lead with 2:59 left in the first frame.
Following Paint Valley taking a charge and then later the PVHS bench getting a technical foul, WHS ended the first with a made free throw by Yeager, with Paint Valley leading 9-5 at the conclusion of the opening quarter.
Paint Valley opened the second frame with six straight points, building their lead to 10 points at 15-5 with a 3-pointer from Bella Stauffer, followed with a free throw by Kendall Dye and two free throws made by McFadden.
WHS reached the scoring column in the second quarter with consecutive 3-pointers by Jaylie Parr and Yeager at the 4:27 mark for a 15-11 score still in favor of the visitors. Following a timeout by Paint Valley, the Lady Bearcats came back with another 6-0 run, increasing their lead to 22-11.
Whiteoak scored the final two points of the quarter with a basket by Hamm, leaving the score at 22-13 when halftime arrived.
PVHS increased their lead to 27-16 when the third quarter ended with the two teams combining for eight points, as PVHS outscored Whiteoak, 5-3. PVHS in the third had three points from Kendall Dye and two points by Bella Stauffer. Whiteoak’s points in the frame came from Yeager.
Paint Valley in the fourth scored 13 points, while WHS scored 15 points to win the quarter, but the deficit was too much as the game ended.
PVHS in the fourth had two points from Stauffer, two points by Mackenna Heath, five points by McFadden (including a 3-pointer) and four points by Kendall Dye, who finished the game with 10 points.
