Hillsboro City Council members approved a dozen ordinances and resolutions, including amended versions of the 2024 budget and fund transfer legislation, during a special meeting Wednesday, Jan. 31.

Hillsboro Mayor Justin Harsha shared his annual State of the City report with council members during the Jan. 31 special city council meeting, as he recapped his first term in office and previewed what he hopes to accomplish in 2024 and subsequent years.

The Hillsboro Records Commission will meet Feb. 13.

In an hourlong afternoon session Wednesday, Jan. 31, Highland County commissioners David Daniels, Brad Roades and Terry Britton met with representatives from McCarty Associates to discuss updates, and some issues, with the county’s records storage building project. 

As part of their recently launched Rural Investment Strategy, Interact for Health is hosting a series of networking events that will provide opportunities for community members to meet with Interact for Health staff and to learn more about the Rural Investment Strategy and The Rural Changemaker Grant opportunities.

Playing for the first time since their first loss after winning 39 straight games, the Fairfield Lions got back to basics in the second half Tuesday night and played their brand of basketball, defeating the host Hillsboro Indians, 53-40, and in the process winning their 17th game of the season. 

On Saturday (Jan. 27), the Hillsboro Indians hosted the Western Brown Broncos and lost the non-conference game by 10 points at 67-57. 

The Hillsboro Christian Academy Crusaders and Lady Crusaders defeated Adams County Christian School in two varsity home games. The Crusaders set a new school record for points in a game against the ACCS Eagles with a final score of 84-49. The Lady Crusaders won their second game of the season against the ACCS Lady Eagles with a final score of 38-34.

The Hillsboro Lady Indians were unable to gain a home non-conference win Saturday afternoon (Jan. 27), as they lost to the visiting Western Brown Lady Broncos by a 59-41 score. 

Ryan Harless of Hillsboro has been named to the Bowling Green State University dean’s list for the fall 2023 semester.

The Hillsboro Indians boys wrestling team earned a 10th-place finish at the Ben Logan Raider Invitational Saturday, Jan. 27 in Bellefontaine, with one first-place and one runner-up individual.

Over two years after a much-debated retirement payment to a former Hillsboro Municipal Court clerk, the Ohio Auditor’s Office issued a finding for recovery of $25,357 Tuesday as part of the city’s 2022 calendar year audit.

The Frontier Athletic Conference away game for the Hillsboro Indians on Friday night (Jan. 26) was well worth the price of admission and the drive to Ross County, as the Indians earned a valuable conference win against the host Chillicothe Cavaliers, 49-35. 

A Hillsboro man was sentenced to six years in prison Monday afternoon, after pleading guilty to an involuntary manslaughter charge in a case involving the death of an area teenager.
