A reading program used at Buckskin Elementary was highlighted by teachers at Monday’s school board meeting, which was held at the elementary school in South Salem.

More than $4,000 was raised to offset unpaid school lunches in the Lynchburg-Clay Local School District in memory of former Lynchburg-Clay varsity basketball standout William Keith Glover.

The Premier Showmen 4-H Club made 4-H Week window and yard displays. 

The Highland County Sheriff's Office this week received a Citizen Complaint Form submitted by former Highland County Sheriff Ron Ward. Following a public records request, the HCSO made the information available to The Highland County Press.

Rotarian Rick Williams conducted the dessert auction consisting of 29 different items that were sold for a total of $5,415 smashing the previous record of $2,830. The total of ticket sales and additional donations was $884 resulting in another event record total of $6,299.  

There are some people in this world who are born to be useful idiots. Lord knows, today I feel like one of them. While I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, most days I am not without some measure of intelligence and influence.

Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera has informed The Highland County Press that effective Tuesday, afternoon March 12, Chief Deputy Brandon Stratton has been placed – again – on administrative leave, after being fully reinstated earlier in the same day.

The 2024 Black History Month program was held Saturday, March 9 at the Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene.

The Highland County Task Force was established in December 2019. Highland County Prosecutor Anneka Collins developed the idea as no law enforcement agency was actively pursuing drug trafficking cases in Highland County.  

It is encouraging to see Democrat mayors and their erstwhile supporters beginning to wake up. Sanctuary cities were never the friend of the legitimate U.S. residents living there. They are nothing more than feigned wokeness to play to a political base.

There are good things happening at Greenfield Middle School and some of those were highlighted at the Monday Feb. 27 board of education meeting held in the middle school gym. 

As of last week, a total of 50 members of Congress, including seven members of the U.S. Senate and 43 members of the U.S. House, have announced they would not seek re-election this year.

I attended the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, Ky. on Feb. 16. This is something I have wanted to do for years, and finally matters aligned in such a way that it could happen.
