An Ohio man was sentenced today to 71 months in prison and four years of supervised release after previously pleading guilty to dog fighting and drug distribution charges.

Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose this week issued a response to congressional Democrats defending Ohio’s nationally recognized voter roll maintenance efforts and the state’s lawful collaboration with federal agencies to ensure accurate voter registration records.

Pending board approval at the May 26 Fairfield Local Schools Board of Education meeting, the district intends to name Matthew A. Murphy as the district’s next superintendent.

The governor’s approach, while it may be well intentioned, does not allow needed research or full public debate, short-circuiting the process Ohio needs. If the state is serious about limited government, scientific evidence, and public accountability, let the Legislature lead. 

On its face, this is progress worth applauding. Grade inflation is no victimless crime. It erodes the signaling value of a Harvard degree. When nearly every transcript is dominated by A’s, employers struggle to distinguish genuine excellence from mere competence. Most of all, students are cheated. They receive false confidence, graduate with weaker preparation, and enter a competitive world unprepared.

The Highland County Land Reutilization Corporation will be having an emergency meeting tomorrow Friday, May 22 at 8 a.m. in the commission chambers on the second floor of the Highland County Administration Building at 119 Governor Foraker Place, Hillsboro. The board will consider a professional services agreement.
