Heartland celebrates with open house

Hope to allow city inspection of Parker Hotel
The city of Hillsboro and Jack Hope, owner of the Parker Hotel, have reached an agreement out of court to allow engineers for the city to inspect the structural integrity of the buildings. 
The city had filed in Highland County Common Pleas Court on Sept. 21, a request that the court compel property owner Jack Hope be ordered to allow "the city of Hillsboro and the inspectors hired by said city to enter the premises located at 125 through 137 W. Main Street, Hillsboro, Ohio, commonly referred to as the Parker House, the Parker Hotel and the Carousel Lounge, for the purpose of conducting an inspection of said premises."

Workshop targets non-profit grant writing skills and resources
In an effort to increase the capacity within the county's non-profit organizations, the Highland County Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring an all-day workshop, "Back to Basics - Make Your Non-Profit Stronger," on Friday, Nov. 12.

Clean Ohio methodology meeting set
Members of the District 15 Clean Ohio review committee will be meeting at 10:30 am on Tuesday, Nov. 2, to score applications for the fall Clean Ohio grant round.  The meeting will be held at the Ohio Valley Regional Development Commission, located at 9329 SR 220 East, Waverly, 45690. In accordance with the Sunshine Law, this meeting is open to any citizens or applicants interested in attending. 


Hills and Dales to hold annual Jingle Bell Bazaar Nov. 6
Hills & Dales will hold its 17th annual Jingle Bell Bazaar on Saturday,  Nov. 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Held at Hills & Dales Training Center 8919 US 50 E. the event will feature more than 80 vendors that will display crafts, food, quilts, candles and hundreds of unique handmade items. Food will be available for purchase.
Unemployment rate on decline; does not mean more people have jobs
Unemployment rates decreased in 72 of Ohio's 88 counties, according to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Service, including Highland County. 
Buckskin holds Family Fitness Night
A Family Fun Fitness Night was held at Buckskin Elementary School on Thursday, Oct. 14. The event was held to promote exercise and good nutrition as well as allow families the opportunity to come to school and be active together.
