In a season of transition for the Fairfield Lady Lions, they took a positive step forward Thursday, despite falling to the North Adams Lady Green Devils, 44-28 in Southern Hills League play at Grandle Gymnasium.

Appeals court: No valid contract existed between city, stockyards; decision reversed
Ohio's Fourth District Court of Appeals has reversed the trial court's judgment in the civil suit between the city of Hillsboro and the Union Stock Yards.
 According to the court's entry, filed Dec. 2, "(The city's) essential argument is that no valid contract exists between the parties," the court wrote in the decision. "We agree. The undisputed evidence shows that as a matter of law, no valid contract existed. Accordingly, we sustain (the city's) first assignment of error and reverse the trial court's judgment."

Emblem Club collects canned goods
The Hillsboro Emblem Club held their annual Memorial Service on November 9, 2010 at 7:10 p.m. at the Hillsboro Elks Lodge. Departed member Margaret Ludwick’s name was entered in the Memorial. There were 13 members who were present for the meeting that followed. ER Dan Pearce was in attendance updating the club on Elks news.
Longtime SSCC professor Bill Horne dies
Highland County and Southern State Community College lost a loyal friend this week, when Professor Bill Horne passed away early Thursday morning at Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati, after suffering a heart attack. He was 70. Professor Horne, a graduate of Whiteoak High School, had been an associate professor of economics at Southern State Community College for more than 25 years.
