I just finished reading “Stop voting against your own interest” by James Matticks. After reading half of the article, I was left scratching my head, wondering what in the world does this have to do with his mission statement?

The Patri-Tots Learning Center at Southern State Community College’s North Campus in Wilmington recently passed its state licensing inspection with 100-percent compliance. This is a feat, in and of itself; however, this is the second time the center has achieved this goal.  In February 2010 the center obtained its first 100-percent rating.

While building on strengths such as working together and understanding major social and economic trends that affect the institution, the Southern State Community College Board of Trustees discussed a self-assessment report, outlining that they need to work on areas of measuring and responding to student success once they left the school, in order for the institution to become stronger.

A fire investigator for the defense testified Thursday that a liquid accelerant was not used and that it cannot be ruled out that a juvenile fire-setter started the March 7 fire on Lafayette Street in Greenfield that killed Thomas and Stephen Coonrod.
