Commissioners seek opinion on Scott House acquisition

Commissioners Shane Wilkin, Tom Horst and Jeremy Shaffer sought and received an opinion on a potential property acquisition or lease from Highland County Prosecuting Attorney Anneka Collins. At the June 29 commissioners’ meeting, Commission Vice President Tom Horst said there has been an informal conversation with the school district regarding the Scott House, with the possibility of using the building for the Highland County Historical Society and Visitors Center.

Festival of the Bells artwork features former bank building

An original oil painting of the former Fifth Third Bank building by Hillsboro artist Stacia Burke will be auctioned off July 2 during the annual Festival of the Bells. The building is featured on the 2011 commemorative bell, which was also drawn by Burke.

Johnson Controls to invest $138.5 million in Toledo facility

"We meet monthly with three companies along the rail line: Johnson Controls, Huhtamaki and Candle-lite," Greenfield City Manager Betty Bishop said. "In fact, State Rep. Cliff Rosenberger has scheduled a meeting for this Wednesday with the Ohio Department of Development in Columbus."

Several Highland County emergency response units participated in a mock disaster scenario over the weekend in Lynchburg as part of a hazardous materials training exercise with the Highland County Emergency Management Agency.
Jim Lyle, director of Highland County EMA, said that the exercise regarding hazardous controlled materials had to be completed by the end of June.

Fairfield, Bright Local 10th-graders score well on OGTs

Bright Local Schools scored Highland County's only perfect score in the subject of writing, where 53 of 53 students tested achieved proficient or above grades. Overall, students from Fairfield Local Schools and Bright Local Schools posted the highest marks among the five public schools in Highland County.
