Earlier this month, 19 Hillsboro High School students had the opportunity to travel to Costa Rica for nine days.

The students visited the Arenal Volcano National Park, La Fortuna, Monteverde, the Santa Elena Cloud Forest, the Manuel Antonio National Park and San Jose.

During their trip, students participated in various activities, including ziplining, hiking, kayaking, swimming, touring coffee and chocolate plantations, touring an oxcart production facility and making traditional tortillas and empanadas.

Also, students were able to view several different plants and trees and wildlife species in their natural habitat. Additionally, during one of their visits to a small village in the Monteverde region, students had a unique surprise. As they were observing a sugar cane press demonstration, they noticed that the press was made by the C.S. Bell Co. in Hillsboro.

Overall, this was an exciting and enriching experience for all who attended.
