Howard Damon Easter

Howard Damon Easter, 86, of Hillsboro, formerly of Leesburg, passed away Friday, Aug. 18, 2023, at Legacy Hillsboro/Heartland of Hillsboro.

Howard was born April 28, 1937, in Bridges, the son of the late Orville and Iva (Rooks) Easter.

Howard was a 1955 graduate from Fairfield High School, and he proudly served his country in the Navy Reserve for 14 years. He grew up farming and continued farming throughout his adult life. While farming, he drove a school bus for Fairfield Schools and Community Action for 24 years. He also served as a Penn Township Trustee for 20 years and he was a member of the Leesburg Lodge #78 F&AM. He loved his family, and he will be greatly missed.

Howard is survived by his wife, Elaine “Cookie” Easter, whom he married Oct. 22, 2002; two children, Leigh Ann Easter of Leesburg and Mark (Shelley) Easter of Greenfield; seven grandchildren, Cassandra (Charlie) Dettwiller, Taylor Easter, Craig (Shylah) Mustard, Michael Mustard, Kaleigh Easter, Iva Easter and Sarah Easter; six great-grandchildren, Garet, Guner, Ely and Owen Mustard and Bruce, Oliver and Beau Dettwiller; a stepson, Daryl Bumgarner; a brother, Darrell Easter of Leesburg; a daughter-in-law, Misty Easter of Centerfield, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn Sue Fulwider Easter, in 1977; a son, Christopher Easter on March 7, 2023; a grandson, Jacob Howard Easter on March 24, 2021; and two sisters, Orvaline Woodruff and Norma Kahlhamer.

Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 25, 2023 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral service will take place Friday, Aug. 25 at 1 p.m. following visitation at the funeral home. H. Scott Latimer will be officiating. Burial will follow services in the Resthaven Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Highland County Humane Society, PO Box 471, Hillsboro 45133.
