The McClain High School natatorium was the site of the 2016-17 South Central Ohio League girls swimming championship Tuesday, and a packed house was on hand to see some intense competition and witness four new league records set.
Wilmington was considered the favorite coming in and did not disappoint after accumulating 311 points and setting an individual and team record. Alison Dooley set a new record in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:33.29, and the Lady Hurricane’s 400 relay team of Dooley, Brianna Gilbert, Abigail Greene and Morgan Bahr swam a record-setting time of 4:22.64.

Storm also blew her competition away by winning the 200 freestyle event in a time of 2:07.47.
Miami Trace, who was picked by some to finish third or fourth, took second place with 262 points and just squeaked by Chillicothe, who tallied 256.
The Lady Tigers finished a very respectable fourth place with 194 points and had an individual champion crowned when junior Emily Parker won the 50 freestyle event with a time of 27.21. McClain’s 200 freestyle relay team of Maria Onusko, Peyton Voss, Megan McAdams and Emily Parker also won a league championship after swimming a 2:00.58. Voss also took second place in the 500 freestyle.
Rounding out the team scoring in the meet were Clinton-Massie (fifth place), 139; Washington (sixth place), 81; and Hillsboro (seventh place), 59.
The Lady Indians, despite finishing last, still had some good individual performances, led by Izzy Bourne, who had a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke, and Ashley Chaney, who took fifth-place in the 200 freestyle event.
McClain’s 400 freestyle relay team of Voss, McAdams, Onusko and Parker also finished third, and their 200 medley relay team of Erika Martin, Onusko, Voss and Parker had an impressive second-place finish. Two other Lady Sharks had impressive swims in the 100 butterfly event, where Lauren Fabin and Anna Raike finished third and fourth, respectively.
