HILLSBORO — The McClain Tigers gained a South Central Ohio League win, and along the way bragging rights for the regular season, by defeating cross-county rival Hillsboro by a 2-0 score.
The Tigers won on the road for the second time this week, defeating the Washington Blue Lions on Tuesday and winning at the home of the Hillsboro Indians, Thursday by scoring a goal in each half.
When these two rivals met earlier this season in Greenfield, the Tigers and Indians tied at 3-3. This was McClain's fifth consecutive win, moving them to 10-4-1 overall. The loss drops the Indians to 8-4-2 overall.
"We knew this was going to be a good game, it always is," McClain head coach Jon Chamblin said. "They tied us at our place, so we wanted to come over here and wanted to win one. The kids are playing well, and I knew it was going to be a battle, but the kids excelled again and took one home."
McClain's first goal came in the first half off the foot of Vini Marcelino for the one-goal halftime lead.

In the second half, with the Indians pressuring the Tigers in the latter stages of the match, McClain's Cody Hardesty put the match out of reach with 37 seconds remaining on the scoreboard. Hardesty's goal came as he maneuvered on the right side of the field, got past his defender and crossed the ball past the keeper to the left side of the goal for the 2-0 lead.
Also in the second half, the Indians were given two yellow cards by the officials.
With the shutout, Chamblin was pleased with his defense.
"Our defense is playing lockdown back there right now," he said. "They communicate well, play together as a unit and I couldn't ask for more from those guys.
"Our anchors back there are Derek Weller, Brandon Goddard, Kaleb Shepherd and Landree Gray, and our keeper is Camden Yates. He played a great game. He didn't get a lot of shots on him, but when he did, he came up with big stops. This is always a good win for us."
