GREENFIELD — McClain defended their home field on Thursday night and did so in convincing fashion, as they scored five unanswered goals en route to a Frontier Athletic Conference win under the lights at McClain Field by a 5-1 score.

This was the second meeting of the season between the two teams, as Hillsboro won the first meeting earlier in the season by a 4-3 score at HHS.

On the fall night at McClain, the Tigers avenged the rivalry loss from earlier in the season with an unmatched intensity that led them from trailing by a 1-0 score to leading at halftime by a 3-1 advantage.

Hillsboro struck first, with their lone goal coming from Andrew Gunderman with the assist from Ethan Snapp. From that point forward, though, the scoring all belonged to the host Tigers.

Three different players scored goals for McClain in the first half as Luke Sanchez, Evan Hutchinson and Reece Schluep all scored goals in the opening 40 minutes of action for the two-goal advantage at 3-1 once halftime arrived.

The second half saw Schluep and Sanchez each add a second goal of the match to their individual totals, resulting in the four-goal, 5-1 victory for McClain.

McClain’s win moves them to 5-9-1 overall and 3-7-1 in the FAC. The loss gives the Indians a record of 4-8-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the FAC.

For the Indians, they will host the Jackson Ironmen on Saturday, Oct. 6 in a makeup FAC game at HHS at 1 p.m.

The Tigers will next play on Thursday, Oct. 11 vs. Unioto in non-conference action.
