GREENFIELD — The McClain Tigers didn't play their best match of the season, but they did what they had to do to fend off the pressure put on them by the visiting Hillsboro Indians, defeating their rival by a 3-1 score Tuesday at McClain Field.

For McClain (4-1, 6-1), they scored very early in the match. In fact, their 1-0 lead came with under three minutes ticked off the clock as Moritz Rehra put the ball in the back of the net.

"Hillsboro played a lot better than their record shows," MHS head coach Jon Chamblin said. "The Greenfield-Hillsboro match is always tough, and it wasn't any different (Tuesday).

"We didn't play well, but well enough to get the win. It wasn't pretty, but it was a win, and I'll take it."

The score stayed the same until there was 2:37 was left in the first half, with Tommy Free knocking the ball into the back of the net for a two-goal advantage.

Even though HHS tried to put pressure on MHS with shots at the goal, they were unable to convert a goal until late in the match.

In the meantime, Tyler Jackson of MHS made it a 3-0 lead in the second half as his goal came with 37:11 left in the match.

HHS head coach John Weber was pleased with the way his team played, but knows they need to score more goals.

"Personally, the way I feel … we maintained possession, controlled the tempo, but we just can't score," Weber said. "Defensively, we made silly mistakes, and they scored goals off those mistakes.

"I'm extremely happy for the way the group played as a one-win team against a team with six wins. I feel we outplayed them, and we outshot them … we just can't score goals, and we have to work on that."

The lone HHS goal came with 52.3 left on the game clock by Trey Moberly into the left side of the net.

"Trey is a major presence on the team," Weber said. "He played well (Tuesday)."
