Steagall playing sophomore football season at Bluffton

Hillsboro graduate and former three-sport athlete Airic Steagall is currently taking part in his sophomore football season at Bluffton University.

In 2011, through six games, the Beavers are 2-4 overall, winning their past two games with victories over Earlham (23-6) and Manchester (Ind.) 30-27 in overtime.

Steagall has rushed for 399 yards on 124 rushes with one touchdown this far in '11.

His touchdown came against Earlham (Ind.) as he had his career-best game, finishing with 157 yards rushing on 30 carries. In that game his is longest run was 43 yards, also a career-high.

In various games this season Steagall has rushed for 66 yards on 22 carries vs. Kalamazoo, 63 yards on 24 carries at Trine, and most recently 42 yards on 18 carries at Manchester. He's also played against Franklin and Mount St. Joseph where he totaled 71 yards on 30 carries.

Steagall, a 5-8 sophomore, not only has rushed for yards, but has 11 receptions for 112 yards this season.

He's had three games where he has totaled three receptions each, and two games with one catch each.

His longest reception went for 22 yards against Franklin (Ind.), as he finished with three catches for 34 yards. At Trine (Ind.), Steagall caught three passes for 32 yards and at MSJ he caught three passes for 19 yards. In games with one reception, the HHS grad caught passes for 14 yards (Kalamazoo) and 13 yards at Manchester.

During his freshman season ('10) Steagall rushed for a total of 200 yards (two touchdowns) and had eight catches for 49 yards.

Bluffton's next game is on Saturday, Oct. 15 vs. Anderson at 1:30 p.m.
