Pitching, sound offense lead to Hillsboro win

The Hillsboro Indians baseball team had very sound hitting on Wednesday and even better pitching, en route to a South Central Ohio League win over the East Clinton Astros, 13-0.
The shutout, run-rule win by the Indians began with the breakout pitching of sophomore Cayse Cameron, who took the ball and gained his first varsity win.
Cameron pitched the complete game, finishing with 11 strikeouts in the win, allowing just one hit along the way. He walked two in the Indians’ SCOL win.
"Cayse, to see him get his first varsity win is always a good thing," HHS head coach Tim Hunt said. "He went out, threw strikes just like we talked about. He got ahead of batters and pitched well."
The HHS hurler began by striking out the side in the first, then added one strikeout in the second. From there, he struck out two more batters in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

At the plate, the Indians were just as dangerous, with a five-run first inning, including a three-run, two-out double by Jacob Aber that put the Indians in from 5-0 after the first innings.
HHS improved to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the SCOL.
"We've been talking about our guys being more aggressive at the plate," Hunt said. "We jumped on fastballs, instead of getting down in the count like we have been.
"We are trying to get our kids to be more aggressive and they responded, and that was good to see."
The Indians began the first with Cole Reveal (2-for-2, HBP, BB) being hit by a pitch with one out, followed by Wyatt Condo also being hit by a pitch in the next at-bat. Latrell Haithcock batted in Reveal with a base hit, and with two outs, Jacob Helterbrand walked.
R.J. Collard followed by taking first on a hit-by-pitch, leading to an RBI. The next batter was Aber, who batted in the aforementioned three runners.
In the second inning, Trey Moberly, Reveal, Condo and Haithcock made it a 9-0 lead with those four scoring runs. Haithcock finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
For the third, Moberly and Condo rounded the bases, and in the fourth, Moberly and Logan Lesley added two more runs to the HHS total.
In all, the Indians finished with 10 hits, six walks and were hit by a pitch on five occasions.
