GREENFIELD — McClain senior Tyler Jackson scored all three of his team’s goals in a 3-1 Division II SE District sectional semifinal win over rival Hillsboro, Monday night in Greenfield.

“Tyler (Jackson) finally came through for us tonight, which is what we’ve been looking for from him all year,” McClain head coach Jon Chamblin said.

No. 10 seeded Hillsboro took a 1-0 advantage at the 7:22 mark of the first half on a goal by Marshall Ward off an assist from Daniel Jacky.

McClain, the No. 7 seed, quickly answered and tied the game 1-1 on an unassisted goal by Jackson two minutes later, which is how the first half ended.

“We didn’t play very well in the first half, so I called our kids out at halftime and challenged them to play better, and they responded well,” Chamblin said.

In the second half, neither team was able to mount too many scoring threats until Jackson netted his second goal at the 13:27 mark of the second period off a nice assist by Avery Voss.

Jackson gained the hat trick moments later when he converted from inside the box with just 11:48 remaining in regulation. The shot was set up by an unbelievable assist from Camden Yates on a punt which traveled about 70 yards through the air.

“I thought we moved the ball a lot better in the second half and got our passes to the middle of the field, which allowed us to score,” Chamblin said. “It was there all night, we just didn’t utilize it very well.

“Our intensity level was much better in the second half too, and our defense played well all night. Overall, I thought everyone played well, and now it’s off to Fairfield Union.”

Hillsboro head coach John Weber, despite being disappointed with the loss, still had plenty of praise for his young team after the game.

“I really appreciate my boys’ effort tonight, and even though we didn’t have the record or type of season we wanted, they still played hard and continued to hustle,” he said. “They are a resilient bunch, which gives us something to build on next season.”

The Tigers will play in the sectional finals on Oct. 20 at No. 2 seeded Fairfield Union at 5 p.m.
