GREENFIELD — McClain senior Chayden Pitzer gained a milestone Tuesday night in the Lady Tigers’ game against Hillsboro by recording her 500th career kill in the fourth and final set of the Frontier Athletic Conference match.
McClain won the match in four sets, winning the final three straight, as Hillsboro won 26-24 in set one, holding a 20-8 advantage early in the set. The Lady Tigers battled back late to make it the closest and most exciting set of the FAC match.
McClain won the next two sets by scores of 25-8 and 25-15 for a 2-1 lead in the match. MHS won the fourth set at 25-20.

With the win came the aforementioned 500th kill for Pitzer, as she had a game-high 16 kills in the match. The senior was all smiles after the match while giving thanks to those who have helped her along the way.
“I couldn’t have did this without my setters from previous teams and Makenzie Montavon this year, who I think is the best setter ever,” Pitzer told The Highland County Press after the match. “Macie Adams and Allara Spurlock in the back row and really everyone else on the team helped me reach this goal.
“I also want to thank all of my coaches, my mom and dad and God. It feels really good to know I’ve reached 500 kills. I really wanted 1,000, but I knew that wasn’t going to happen since this is only my third year on varsity.”
Spurlock was the Lady Tigers’ serving leader in set two, while Pitzer and Hunter Scott were awesome at the net in both games. The fourth and final set was a much tougher battle in which the Lady Indians played hard before dropping the game 25-20.
“I thought tonight was just a great team effort by everyone,” McClain head coach Taylor Alsop said. “All of our girls wanted to play well and help Chayden get her 500th kill.
“We started out slow in that first set, but in the second and third games everybody seemed to wake up and get motivated, which helped push them through the rest of the match. I’m really happy for Chayden, I know I wasn’t there for a lot of those kills, but I have been here for more than 140 of them.
“Hunter Scott also had a really big game for us at our middle front. She’s been playing great up there, and her jump serve has been working well for her too.”
McClain hosts Jackson Thursday while Hillsboro entertains Washington Thursday night, both being FAC matches.
