Though the game was played very tough for 80 minutes on Monday night at Richards Memorial Field, it was an onslaught of three goals in nine minutes and ten seconds by the visiting Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs that sent them to a 4-2 win over rival Hillsboro.
LC head coach Dennis West was pleased with his team.
"The girls are playing at a high level right now, and we had good play from every girl that was on the field," he said. "They committed to playing hard for 80 minutes, and this was a good win for us."
In what is scheduled to be the final soccer match at Richards Memorial Field (HHS will open their new soccer facility on Thursday), the Lady Mustangs were able to gain the win with the aforementioned three goals in less than 10 minutes. The rally began with a goal from Alexa Cochran from around 20 yards out to the left corner of the goal for what was then a 2-2 score with 12:59 left on the clock.
From there, LC senior Sydney Cromer scored the go-ahead goal with 11:02 on the clock with the assist from Chisman for a 3-2 advantage.

Maybe the most important goal of the non-conference Highland County matchup came with 3:49 on the clock where Morgan Fittro broke away from the defense just by a couple steps, and the HHS keeper moved up in the box. Fittro was able to kick the ball past the keeper for an important two-goal lead.
Last season, the two teams tied at 2-2, as both were regional qualifiers in their respective divisions in '13. The loss sends HHS to a 2-1 overall record, and with the win, LC moves to 4-1 overall.
As for the first half, the was a different story for both teams, though it was LC who led by a 1-0 score.
Neither team was able to score a goal early on, mostly battling for possession of the ball in the opening 20 minutes.
It wasn't until there was 6:18 left on the first-half clock where McKayla Binkley scored the first goal of the match. Binkley was about 10-15 yards out from the goal when she kicked the ball to the left side of the net and the 1-0 lead. She was assisted by Cromer.
The second half, at the beginning was all HHS, with Trista Rhodes tying the score at 1-1 with a penalty kick with 33:08 left in the match.
Hillsboro's Hope Tira put HHS ahead by a 2-1 score with 26:32 left in the match. The goal from Tira came when she chased the ball downfield with LC players on each side of her. When she reached the ball, she was able to kick the ball past the LC keeper for a one-goal lead at 2-1.
HHS head coach Jeremy Ratcliff spoke about the match.
"We knew coming in that Lynchburg-Clay would present a good test because they returned a lot of players from last season," Ratcliff said. "It was a back-and-forth physical game, and at the end of the day, I didn't have our girls prepared for that type of game.
"I'm proud of the effort from the girls, but I have to do a better job at having them prepared."
Hillsboro keeper Carly Meyer finished with 10 saves. LC keeper Sabrina Duncan finished with five saves.
