The start of 2014 South Central Ohio League play for the Hillsboro Lady Indians kicked off with a victory on Tuesday night at Richards Memorial Field where they defeated the Chillicothe Lady Cavaliers, 3-1.
HHS has started the season at 2-0 under new head coach Jeremy Ratcliff, as they also defeated the Eastern Brown Lady Warriors, 5-2 on Saturday.
The win on Tuesday also gives HHS a victory in the SCOL standings.
"This is a good league win," Ratcliff said. "The girls set a goal to be league champions this season, and this was a good start. I told them every league game matters and means the same.
"I'm proud of the effort from the team."
The first goal for HHS against the visiting Lady Cavaliers came with the scoreboard reading 33:57 as senior Trista Rhodes scored off a header that went a short distance past the CHS defense (who were in front of the net) for the 1-0 lead. Gaining the assist was fellow senior Kaylynn Bell.

The second HHS goal was at the 21:03 mark off an own goal by Chillicothe.
Chillicothe's Teyanna Thompson made it a one-goal game with 15:52 on the first half clock, as the first half eventually ended with HHS leading, 2-1.
The second half was a struggle to score goals for both teams, as each had their opportunities in the early stages and even middle stages of the second half, including one near goal for HHS with the ball hitting off the top of the crossbar around the 13-minute mark.
HHS did add one final goal with 8:23 left in the match with Bell kicking the ball from 18 yards away to the right side of the net for a two-goal Lady Indians lead.
Carly Meyer finished with 12 saves for HHS as keeper.
"We have been working with Carly to be more aggressive, and she played well," Ratcliff said. "We are starting to gel as a unit, and Chillicothe did a good job of mixing up their runs.
"We have to continue to rely on communication in all aspects of the field (offense/defense) to continue to progress as a team."
HHS will face the McClain Lady Tigers on Thursday in Hillsboro, which is an SCOL game.
