Lady Indians win back-to-back games

HILLSBORO — Hillsboro softball is starting to swing the bats, and in the process have won two straight games, defeating the London Lady Red Raiders 11-2, and Batavia, 11-7.
The Lady Indians' most recent win was in defense of the home field, with a nine-run win over LHS for a South Central Ohio League victory.
LHS scored their runs in the second and fourth innings.
As for the Lady Indians, they took the lead in the second with two runs, followed by regaining the lead in the fourth with a four-run inning.
In the fifth, HHS added five runs to their total.
"We hit the ball very well (Friday)," HHS head coach Krista George said. "Jenni and Kayla did well, and we ran the bases with a lot of steals."
The second inning by HHS began with a base hit by A.J. Sanders, followed by a RBI-double from Jenni Middleton. Middleton stole third base and scored later in the inning.
Hillsboro wasn't finished scoring in the league battle, as they took advantage of LHS in the fourth with runs from Sara Ray, Sanders, Middleton and Kayla Deatley.
The fourth started with a base hit from Ray, followed with a double by Sanders. Middleton added a single in the inning and Deatley brought runners with a double. Jessica Donahue also had a single and stolen base in the inning.
In the fifth, it was Ray, again, who lead off the inning, this time reaching base on a six-pitch walk. With one out, Middleton singled and Deatley reached on an error. Donahue took a base off a fielder's choice, and Mallori Ferguson singled and stole a base. Haley Wisman drew a walk, and Taylor Moberly also reached the bases with two outs.
Scoring runs for HHS in the fifth were Ray, Deatley, Donahue, Ferguson and Wisman.
"We are finally coming together as a team … we are playing as one unit," George said. "Our assistant coach Brian Williamson is doing an excellent job with the kids.
"I'm proud of them and how they are working together."
The win went to Wisman, as she pitched a complete game, with three strikeouts.
On Thursday, HHS defeated Batavia, 11-7 with the win in the circle credited to Whitney Earley. Earley pitched 6 1-3 innings for HHS, and Sanders pitched for the final two outs.
Against Batavia, HHS scored one run in the second, five in the third and five in the fourth for the non-league win.
Deatley scored the run in the second inning.
In the third, Deatley, Donahue, Moberly, Haylee Wehrung and Sanders all added runs.
The fourth inning had Ray, Sanders, Middleton, Deatley and Donahue all score runs.
Sanders finished the game 4-for-5 at the plate with one RBI. Mariah Goad was 3-for-4 and Donahue was 2-for-4.
