Lady Indians take down Miami Trace

HILLSBORO — Besides a first inning where Miami Trace scored three runs, the Hillsboro Lady Indians kept their South Central Ohio League opponent scoreless for the remainder of the game, leading to another win this season.
The Lady Indians answered the three-run first by the visitors with one run of their own in their half of the first, followed by three runs in the third to take the lead for good, eventually winning by a 5-3 score.
"Playing Miami Trace, you never know what you are going to get," HHS head coach Katie Moberly said. "They are sloppy games for some reason, but we were able to string together some hits today, which was nice to see.
"We didn't have as many hits as I wanted, but we still got some hits."
For Hillsboro, their first run in the bottom of the first came with Kerstin Thornburgh doubling and scoring off a double from Madison Snyder. Thornburgh and Snyder each went 3-for-3.

"Maddie Snyder did a nice job at shortstop and got some hits," Moberly said. "Kerstin Thornburgh had a nice game at the plate as well."
In the third, the Lady Indians (3-1, 5-3) saw Ali Stratton lead off the inning by taking first on an error, followed by a double by Thornburgh and a double by Hanna Breeden.
Those three batters all scored runs in the third to take a 4-3 lead. Also with a double in the inning was Snyder, her second of the game.
The final run for HHS came in the fifth with Thornburgh crossing home plate for a two-run Lady Indians lead.
At the plate, Hillsboro saw their 1-4 batters gain all eight of their hits (8-for-12), plus score all five of their runs. Thornburgh and Snyder each had two doubles, and Breeden tallied one double.
Breeden was the winning pitcher, going all seven innings at Alice Cassner Field. The starting pitcher finished with nine strikeouts, while giving up three runs (none earned) on seven hits.
"Hanna pitched a nice game," Moberly said. "She was thinking more, and she finished the game. Also, her defense played well behind her in most cases."
HHS will play again on Wednesday when they host Chillicothe at 5 p.m.
