Following a tough road loss on Monday night, the Hillsboro Lady Indians rebounded in a big way by earning a conference victory on their home field, defeating the Miami Trace Lady Panthers by a 4-1 score.
Hillsboro’s win moves them to an overall record of 2-4-2, with this being their second Frontier Athletic Conference victory of the season.
“It’s good to get a league win,” HHS head coach Jeremy Ratcliff said. “Trace always comes in and plays hard. They’re scrappy. They hustle, play with a lot of heart and they play hard. They play physical. They’ve got decent runs off the ball. They’re always a tough matchup for us, so it’s nice to get a win after a tough loss last night.”

As for their FAC match on Tuesday at Hillsboro High School, the Lady Indians led by a 3-1 score at halftime, though they trailed four minutes into the match by a 1-0 score.
That deficit was short-lived because in less than two minutes of play, the score was tied at 1-1 following a goal from Callan Myers at the 34:33 mark of the first half. That was the first of three goals for Myers, who scored the next two goals of the first half.
Myers’ second goal came with 10:41 on the scoreboard, and her third goal came via a penalty kick with 6:33 on the first half clock for what was the aforementioned 3-1 lead.
“We’ve been struggling to put the ball in the back of the net lately, so that’s a good night for (Callan),” Ratcliff said of the hat trick. “She’s one of our main offensive threats.
“Offensively speaking, we need four, five or six to step up and be threats to score as well. That’ll open up players like Callan, Madi Marsh, Emily Hawk and Ashleigh Baucom. I appreciate the girls’ effort. It’s nice to get a win. It’s been a bit of a rocky start to the season, but it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish.”
In the second half, HHS added one final goal when Natalie Sullivan made it a 4-1 advantage with a goal from around 15 yards out at an angle off the keeper’s hands (on a free kick) with 33:57 left in the match.
Madi Marsh collected two assists in the match for the Lady Indians. For the game, HHS totaled six shots on goal and 14 total shots.
At goal, Riley Moberly totaled eight saves for the Lady Indians.
Next for HHS is an away FAC match at Chillicothe.
