GREENFIELD — The Hillsboro Lady Indians gave head coach Anthony Carson the perfect birthday gift on Thursday night by defeating their rival McClain Lady Tigers by a 10-2 score Thursday at McClain Field.
Playing in their second Frontier Athletic Conference match of the week, the Lady Indians rebounded from a loss at Chillicothe on Tuesday and got back on track as the end of the regular season nears and tournament time is around the corner.
For the Lady Indians (5-3-1, FAC), they led by a 6-1 score at halftime, then outscored the Lady Tigers 4-1 in the second half.

“The first half, the girls played like they should be playing,” Carson said. “Possessing the ball, communicating … that was something we didn’t see on Tuesday night. They weren’t happy with how they played, nor was I, but we practiced hard on Wednesday and focused hard on possession and that showed today.
“Rebounding and not being happy with their performance from Tuesday shows they are taking ownership as a whole. It is not just the five seniors with Callan, Molly and Emily being the captains. They’ve taken ownership, and they thought we should have been doing better.”
The first half for the Lady Indians saw their first goal scored by Stephanie Patton less than a minute into the FAC match, with the unassisted goal coming at the 39:28 mark as that was the first of her two goals in the match.
Next was a goal from Laila Zugg with the assist from Callan Myers with 29:14 left in the opening half. From there, Myers scored a goal that was assisted by Molly McCreary with 18:41 on the scoreboard, followed by her second goal at the 13:12 mark.
The final two first-half goals for Hillsboro were from McCreary, with the assist from Emily Hawk, at the 7:39 mark, while the sixth HHS goal was from Sami Blair, assisted by McCreary with 2:20 left in the first half.
McClain’s lone first half goal was from Kerigan Pollard.
In the second half, Hawk scored a goal with the assist by Myers less than a minute into the second half at 39:40. Paige Howland scored a goal at 33:40 with an assist from Patton.
Hillsboro’s ninth goal was scored at the 31:55, as Howland connected for the goal with the assist from Patton. The final goal scored by the Lady Indians came from Patton with the assist going to Brynn Bledsoe with 23:25 left in the match.
McClain’s second-half goal was scored by Kelli Uhrig.
Next for McClain is a non-conference match on Oct. 8 at West Union.
The Lady Indians will face the Jackson Ironladies in a match on Saturday, Oct. 6 at HHS with a start time of 11 a.m.
