On Thursday, Sept. 30, Hillsboro volleyball hosted Washington and recognized two players for recent milestones.

Emma Birkhimer was honored for achieving her 500th dig while playing against Chillicothe. Gracie Dean was also recognized for achieving her 500th kill and for breaking the school record of 506 kills, previously set in 2016 by Taylor Remsing, in a home match against East Clinton. Dean also holds the school record for digs with 812.

In the game against Washington, Hillsboro lost in five sets 25-20, 24-26, 23-25, 25-23 and 13-15.

Dean led the Lady Indians in kills with 28. Addison Huff had 46 assists, and Mya Bell had 46 digs.

The Lady Indians had 11 blocks, led by Sinai Roberts and Brynli Labig, each with three.

“The girls played a great game,” head coach Nichole Dickey said. “It was intense from the beginning to the end. We’re definitely improving and playing better as a team. The first time we met WCH, they beat us in three sets.

“This week on Tuesday we have Jackson, who we beat in three sets last time, and then McClain for Senior Night on Thursday. Last time we met McClain we lost in five sets, so this should be an exciting game.”
