The Hillsboro Lady Indians dropped their South Central Ohio League matchup with the Madison-Plains Lady Golden Eagles 50-38, Thursday night at Hillsboro High School.

MP out scored the Lady Indians 18-6 in the first quarter and came back with a 14-point effort in the second to gain a halftime advantage of 32-10.

In the third the Lady Indians compiled 16 points, while holding MP to five in the same eight minute span. HHS battled to 12 points in the final quarter, but allowed the Lady Golden Eagles to rebound from the third with 13 fourth quarter points. In the third frame HHS senior Megan Barnes sank two 3-pointers and fellow senior Heather Storer scored six points off Hillsboro’s press.

In the fourth HHS cut the MP lead down to eight points, but the Lady Golden Eagles finished 9 of 15 from the free-throw line to seal the win.

“Being behind 32-10 beginning the third quarter, the girls came out and played extremely hard to cut the lead down to 11 points entering the fourth,” Hillsboro head coach Herb Mihalik said.

Storer led all scorers with a game-high 17 points. Storer was 11 of 14 from the free-throw line. Barnes finished with 13 points. Jenni Willey netted four points for HHS, and Shelby Coyle and Julie Shafer each scored two points.

Wilson led MP with 11 points.

The loss drops HHS to 1-11 overall, 0-7 in the SCOL.

The Lady Indians will play again on Saturday as they travel to face the Washington Lady Blue Lions.
