Lady Indians fall to Clinton-Massie; CM clinches SCOL title

The Clinton-Massie Lady Falcons proved on Saturday at Hillsboro High School why they've had at least a share of the South Central Ohio League championship for at least the past seven seasons.
CM dominated play against the Hillsboro Lady Indians Saturday morning, achieving a rare feat against the Lady Indians … keeping them scoreless in an SCOL match, with CM defeating the host Hillsboro squad, 5-0 at HHS.
"This was a tough way to end the regular season, no doubt about it," HHS head coach Jeremy Ratcliff said. "Clinton-Massie is a good team, and they came ready to play.
"Never have I been more disappointed in my own inability to prepare a team."
The loss moves HHS to a final regular-season record of 10-6 overall, being swept by CM this season in SCOL play. HHS finishes the '14 SCOL season at 7-5, with wins against Chillicothe, Washington (2), McClain (2) and Miami Trace (2).
Their losses came against Clinton-Massie (2), Wilmington (2) and Chillicothe.
HHS last shared the SCOL title with the Lady Falcons in 2011.
In the loss on Saturday, HHS trailed by a 3-0 score at halftime with the Lady Falcons going ahead 1-0 with 35:10 left in the half with junior Courtney Dearing scoring the first game of the SCOL match.

From there, the next two goals were from junior Mallory Homan at the 21:48 mark and 10:33 mark of the first half.
The second half was not much better for the host Lady Indians as the visiting Lady Falcons continued to control the match with CM captain Megan Frederick putting CM ahead 4-0 with 36:24, and the fifth and final goal came with 32:40 on the clock off a header by Dearing for her second goal of the match.
HHS keeper Carly Meyer totaled 17 saves, nine in the first half.
For HHS, they totaled five shots at goal in the 80-minute match.
The Lady Indians will host Westfall in the first round of the sectional tournament on Monday at 5 p.m. at HHS.
"We start the postseason now, and there were some positives in this loss from an individual standpoint," Ratcliff said. "We just now have to do a better job as a group."
The past two postseasons, the Lady Indians have won the district championship, including last season when they reached the regional finals.
