HILLSBORO — It was another day at the office for the undefeated Hillsboro Lady Indians, as they defeated Highland County and South Central Ohio League rival McClain, 8-0 Thursday at Richards Memorial Field.
The win lifts HHS to 4-0-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the SCOL. The tied score came on Tuesday as the Lady Indians tied the Clinton-Massie Lady Falcons 1-1 at CMHS. The rematch for the two league leaders will be a home contest for the Lady Indians on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 5 p.m.
On Thursday, at RMF, it was all Lady Indians from start to finish, scoring five goals in the first half and three more in the second 40-minute half for the eight-goal win.
"This was a nice win, we just need to try and finish better on some things," HHS coach Leslie Molen said. "We need to be more consistent on our left-to-right side."
In the first half, the scoring was shared, as five different Lady Indian players put the ball in the back of the net.
Kaylynn Bell began the scoring off a cross kick by Lauren Grimes with 30:54 left in the opening half.
Then it was Hailey Wisman's turn, as she scored when she was behind the MHS keeper with 19:35 remaining. The goal was assisted by Haley McCoppin.
With 15:30 remaining, Gabby Sugden scored a goal to make the score 3-0, followed with a goal by McCoppin with 11:50 left in the opening half.
The final first half goal was scored by Leah Pence, with the assist from Taylor Davis to make it a 5-0 match after 40 minutes.
Pence added a second goal with 34:51 left in the second half, as Grimes was credited with the assist.
The final two goals were scored by Kaylee Achor and McCoppin. Achor's goal was assisted by Bell and McCoppin's goal had an assist from Kristy Hopkins.
HHS will play again on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at Madison-Plains in a SCOL match. There will be no games next week due to the Highland County Fair.
"I think we just need to maintain our fitness level (during fair week), and we're just going to let the kids enjoy the fair," Molen said. "Then after that we'll be back at it."
