Lady Indians drop SCOL game to undefeated Miami Trace

HILLSBORO — Though the Hillsboro Lady Indians went even with the Miami Trace Lady Panthers after the first quarter Saturday afternoon, that wasn't quite enough to take down the defending South Central Ohio League champions.
With the score tied at eight after the opening eight minutes, the Lady Panthers scored 22 points in the second frame, en route to a 61-42 win over HHS at Hillsboro High School.
With the 22-point output in the second quarter, MT held HHS to nine points in the same frame for a halftime lead of 30-17.
HHS had a productive offensive scoring output in the final two quarters with 25 combined points, including a 13-point third quarter (12 points in the fourth). In those same quarters, MT scored a combined 31 points, including 18 points in the third quarter.
HHS was led by Jenni Willey, who scored a team-high 19 points. She gained a double-double with 11 rebounds.
For MT, Ashley Lawson scored a game-high 27 points.
Also adding to the Hillsboro scoring column was A.J. Sanders with eight points. Danielle Gillman and Carey Juillerat each scored four points. Others to score for HHS were Whitney Earley, Jessica Donahue and Alexandra Stratton, each scoring two points. Taylor Moberly scored one point.
From the free-throw line, HHS was 16-of-27 for 59 percent, while MT was 14-of-20 for 70 percent.
Other stats for HHS were Willey, Earley and Juillerat with two assists each. Willey and Sanders each had two steals.
