The Clinton-Massie Lady Falcons swooped in and took away a South Central Ohio League win Monday evening away from the Hillsboro Lady Indians in Hillsboro's final home game of the season, defeating HHS 67-33.
Before the game, HHS seniors were honored, including: Shelby Coyle, Heather Storer, Paij Shelton, Holly Royce, Megan Barnes and Julie Shafer.
"This group has worked hard to make improvements in the basketball program," HHS head coach Herb Mihalik said. "They have a better understanding of the game and have provided leadership for the program. The record does not show the improvement these girls have made the last two years. The coaching staff is proud of these six seniors and their contributions to the basketball program."
Each team scored double figures in the first quarter, but it was the Lady Falcons who almost doubled the HHS output as they led the opening eight minutes 19-10.
CM improved in the second quarter as they netted 21 points, while their defense held the Lady Indians to a six-point quarter for a 40-16 lead at the half.
HHS came back and won the third 12-8, but lost their final home quarter 19-5.
"Clinton Massie is one of the top teams in our league because they shoot the ball very well," Mihalik said. "Gambill is one of the top three players in our league. They rebounded the ball very well on the offensive end, getting two and three shots at the basket."
Coyle led the Lady Indians in scoring with nine points, including one 3-pointer. Morgan Price and Storer each scored seven points. Price sank two 3-pointers, and Storer knocked down three two-point buckets.
"Shelby Coyle shot the ball well (Monday), along with sophomore Morgan Price, who made 2 of 3 from the 3-point line," Mihalik said.
Barnes finished with four points, including a 3-point shot, followed by A.J. Sanders and Shelton each scoring two points.
For the Lady Falcons, Jordanne Gambill, a junior, finished with a game-high 23 points. The junior made six two-point baskets and two 3-pointers and was 5 of 5 from the free-throw line.
CM junior Brooke Sargent netted 13 points, going 6 of 6 from the free-throw line and connecting once from beyond the arc. Sargent also made two two-point field goals.
Stacey Lunsford, a sophomore, finished with 11 points for CM. Lunsford made one 3-pointer.
