HILLSBORO — The young Hillsboro Lady Indians continued their season Monday with a 4-1 loss to the London Lady Red Raiders at Hillsboro High School.

The lone HHS win came in third singles with junior Brandi Wooten winning by scores of 6-3, 6-2 in straight sets.

LHS win the remaining two singles and two double matches.

The loss drops HHS to 1-7 overall, with their lone team win coming against Portsmouth Notre Dame via forfeit.

This season, the first singles is senior Whitney Mathews and second singles is junior Jamie Davis.

"This year, we have a lot of freshmen and sophomores, with just three returning girls to the team from last year," Hillsboro coach LaRue Turner said. "The good thing is we have something to build on, and that will be fun to see.

"I want the girls to keep learning the game of tennis, and they are learning. I've seen improvement, and playing good competition will only help the girls get better."

Turner continued to talk about his young team and how some of them have just begun the game.

"We are striving to be like the better teams, and the girls are working hard in practices, and they can learn the game," he said. "The only way to get better is to keep playing the game.

"You have to remember a lot of these girls had never picked up a racket until June or July, and I have already seen improvements."

Hillsboro will host home matches on Wednesday and Thursday.[[In-content Ad]]
