This year, there was no doubt that Hillsboro senior Kristin Jamieson was the best of the best at the 2018 East/Southeast Division I District Tournament, with the senior winning the championship by nine strokes Monday en route to stamping her ticket for a return to the state tournament.
Jamieson won with a score of 65 at the EagleSticks Golf Club as she shot a 29 on the front nine, followed by a 36 on the back nine in the 18-hole event. The district runner-up was senior Chloe Crone of Dover High School with a score of 74.
The Hillsboro senior Jamieson was the individual qualifier for the event as one individual not on the winning team qualified for the state tournament. The district champion was New Philadelphia with a team score of 327, qualifying for state as a team.
Hillsboro did not have a girls golf team this season, but that hasn’t stopped Jamieson as she was the Frontier Athletic Conference Golfer of the Year this season as a member of the boys team, a team she helped earn the FAC championship. Jamieson also won the girls sectional championship last Monday with a score of 73 at the Pickaway Golf Club, winning by seven strokes in that event.
Last year, Jamieson tied for second in the district tournament, winning a playoff to qualify for state. In that event a season ago, as a junior, Jamieson shot a 75.
As a sophomore in 2016, Jamieson also qualified for the state tournament as an individual with her third-place finish as an individual in the tournament, then held at The Links at Groveport in the Central District. In that event, Jamieson also shot a 75.
The 2018 Division I Girls Golf State Tournament will be held on Friday, Oct. 19 and Saturday, Oct 20 at The Ohio State University Gray Golf Course.
Last year at the state tournament, Jamieson tied for 26th place overall with a two-day score (36 holes) of 158, with a Day 1 score of 78 and Day 2 score of 77. During her sophomore year at state, Jamieson shot a score of 84 in what was a one-day tournament due to weather at The Ohio State University Gray Golf Course.
