Hillsboro High School senior Kristin Jamieson signed her National Letter of Intent to join The Ohio State University women’s golf team during a ceremony at HHS Tuesday.

“We are excited about Kristin’s commitment to Ohio State women’s golf,” Ohio State women’s golf head coach Therese Hession said in an OSU press release. “She is an up-and-coming player with an amazing work ethic on the golf course and in the classroom. Kristin’s best golf is ahead of her, and we’re excited she wants to be a part of Buckeye Nation.”

As previously reported in The Highland County Press, Jamieson verbally committed to OSU after competing at the OHSAA Division I State Girls Golf Tournament her junior year, where she finished 26th. Hession, who watched Jamieson during the tournament, offered Jamieson a spot on the Ohio State women’s golf team to play Division I golf on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017. By the following night, Jamieson verbally accepted the offer.

“After my round, I wasn’t happy with how I played and I was talking with my family and coaches,” Jamieson told The Highland County Press last fall. “When I went to talk with Coach Hession, it wasn’t even on my mind to receive an offer that day. She said she saw me struggle, but also saw how I came back from it on the front nine … and ‘that’s why we want you on our team.’

“We were all excited and shocked …. I didn’t think the offer would come that day. When Coach Hession told me those were the reasons they wanted me, they told me they knew I was a fighter, and that was a quality they enjoyed in me. When they made the offer, I just looked at my family and didn’t know what to do. It was an overload of emotion.

“I didn’t give an answer then. On Sunday, I talked with coaches and family and verbally accepted the offer. It was a dream come true. Three years ago, I said I wanted to be a Buckeye after golfing in an event. To have it come true is absolutely breathtaking.”

That was Jamieson’s second of three trips to the state tournament, as she also finished 34th at the tournament as a sophomore. This fall, Jamieson was sixth overall at state, finishing with a two-day score of 146 (+6 over par) as she shot a 74 on Friday, Oct. 19 and a 72 on Saturday, Oct. 20.

This season, Jamieson was a member of the Hillsboro boys golf team, where she helped lead them to the Frontier Athletic Conference championship as she was the FAC Golfer of the Year in the boys division. When the postseason began, Jamieson went back to the girls side and won a sectional title for the second consecutive year, along with a district championship.

Also in 2018, Jamieson was named second-team All-Ohio and was Academic All-Ohio. On Tuesday, she was also awarded the Don McKenzie Award for being the female athlete with the highest academic average, which was one of her high school goals.

Along with her boys team and Golfer of the Year honors this year, Jamieson was also a member of the first-place South Central Ohio League (freshman and sophomore seasons) and Frontier Athletic Conference (junior season) girls golf teams. She was named league/conference girls golfer of the year in each of those seasons, as well as being named the Southeast District golfer of the year all four years of her high school career.
